Yamaha NS-F210BL Review: Slim 2-Way Tower for TV and Small Rooms

Yamaha's NS-F210BL is a very slim, light tower designed to match flat-panel TVs. Here's what its small woofers mean for bass, who it suits, and when to add a sub.

The Yamaha NS-F210 (BL is the black finish) is one of the slimmest tower speakers you can buy. It was designed to sit neatly beside a flat-panel TV, with a round steel base and a narrow cabinet. It is still listed by Yamaha USA, which makes it one of the few long-running budget towers you can still buy new.

This updated review explains exactly what the NS-F210 is good at — and what its very small drivers mean for bass. (We’ve removed an earlier “we tried it” line and a star score, because they weren’t based on documented testing.)

How we researched this: This guide is based on manufacturer specifications, owner documentation, published third-party measurements and professional reviews. We have not hands-on tested these speakers unless a section says so. Our methodology

Design and features

  • Two 3-1/8-inch aluminum-cone woofers — light and quick, but small. They keep the cabinet extremely narrow.
  • 7/8-inch balanced-dome tweeter for treble.
  • Bass-reflex cabinet with a round steel base for stability.
  • Sold individually — you need two for stereo.

What the small woofers mean

A 50 Hz low-frequency limit is typical of bookshelf speakers, not full-size towers. In practice the NS-F210 sounds clear and fills a small room at normal TV and music volumes, but it can’t reproduce deep bass or play very loud. That’s why we recommend treating it as part of a 2.1 or 5.1 system with a subwoofer. Set your receiver’s crossover around 80–100 Hz so the sub handles the bass the small woofers can’t.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Extremely slim and light — easy to place beside a TV.
  • Still available new from Yamaha.
  • 6-ohm load works with typical receivers.

Cons

  • Bass limited to about 50 Hz — a subwoofer is strongly advised.
  • Small drivers limit maximum volume.
  • 86 dB sensitivity is below average.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Yamaha NS-F210 still available?

Yes — Yamaha USA still lists it as a floor-standing speaker sold individually. Availability at retailers varies.

What's the difference between NS-F210 and NS-F210BL?

BL indicates the black finish. The speaker itself is the same model.

Does the NS-F210 need a subwoofer?

For most people, yes. Its two 3-1/8-inch woofers reach down to about 50 Hz, so movies and bass-heavy music sound much fuller with a subwoofer handling the low end.

Is the NS-F210 good for a large room?

It’s better suited to small rooms and TV setups. Large rooms need more cone area — consider the Yamaha NS-555 or a tower with dual 6.5-inch woofers.

Verdict

The NS-F210 is a neat, discreet tower for small rooms and TV sound — and genuinely good value when paired with a subwoofer. On its own, it lacks the bass most people expect from a tower.
