How the Match Finder works
The Match Finder uses a small set of transparent rules — not a secret ranking — to turn your answers into guidance. Here is what each answer influences:
- Room size sets the speaker category. Small rooms suit slim 2-way or 2.5-way towers; medium rooms suit mainstream towers with dual woofers; large and open-plan rooms benefit from full-size 3-way designs with more cone area.
- Placement adjusts that suggestion. If the speakers must sit near a wall, front-ported or sealed designs are usually easier to place than rear-ported ones.
- Use and sound preference decide whether a subwoofer is recommended, optional or unnecessary, and what to look for in reviews.
- Existing equipment drives the amplifier advice — for example, many AV receivers prefer 6–8 ohm speakers.
- Budget filters the models we show to those in your price tier and adds advice about amplifier spending.
Models appear only when we have verified their specifications and listed them for your budget tier and room size. The reason each model is shown is printed beneath it.
